Imagine living with it
What the Depth Keeps explores memory not as something consciously recalled, but as something preserved within the body — ancient, inherited, and older than language.
Painted blue on blue, the animals do not separate themselves from their surroundings. They emerge slowly from the same colour that holds them, as if surfacing from a depth where memory, instinct, and image have not yet become distinct. The absence of strong contrast is deliberate: what exists at this level does not need to announce itself in order to remain present.
At the centre, the bull stands as a fixed point while horses and hares move through the surrounding space. Together, they form an inner archive of stillness, movement, alertness, and survival — traces of knowledge carried long before it could be expressed in words.
The painting does not bring this memory fully to the surface. It invites the viewer to look more slowly and enter the depth where it has always been kept.
